Our Royal Finds at King and King Wong

It was Youth Day on Monday so Sidah and I decided to make use of the free afternoon to go on a shopping trip to King and King Wong at the Nex.

The Malaysian concept lifestyle company opened a one-stop 18,000 square feet, two-level megastore which it calls a mid-range lifestyle concept destination for those looking for diverse offerings from Victorian and oriental themes to avant-garde and elegant designs. Personally Kings is one of the few reasons I would go down to the labyrinth that is the Nex mall, the other being its library (read: latest editions of travel books).

Ok first the bad. It’s mid-range which means you can’t expect IKEA prices. If you’ve been to the Malaysian version, you probably can find similar items at the same price but in Ringgit. It’s hard to find for first time visitors to the Nex and delivery charges are at $80 per trip unless you bought something above $5000(!!).

The good? If you are looking for country style or (my favourite) Classical European style with a modern twist, this is the place.

We were there to shop for our side tables and these were the contenders.

$350.60

As you can see, I am looking for a mirrored side table.

$261.30

This was the cheapest that we could find. So definitely under consideration!

$557.10

And trust my favourite to the most expensive…. *sigh*

My wife regrets not buying one of these for her dressing table. She is now trying to convince me these would look good at the bare wall at our household shelter.

$389.70

The bedding department has plush looking bed frames (slightly less than $3000 for the fancier ones). Some of their bedding also had crystals and shiny stuff so of course the wife was enthralled. This $127.30 ‘diamond’ bed cover almost made it to Punggol Lodge on the basis that we can use it during Hari Raya to cover the mess that is our unmade bed.

However, this is not the place to look for Egyptian cotton or threadcounts beyond 300. That entry is for another day.

So our stash? We spent a hundred odd dollars which qualified us for membership privileges.

I got this for her dresser – to dispose of her tissues and what not. The IKEA bin we bought already spoilt!

These go in the kitchen.

And the rest of the money is going towards my DIY chandelier project. Expected date of completion is before Hari Raya.
