Raya-ready House

It’s been a hectic few weeks but we finally managed to get our living areas ready to receive guests this Hari Raya. We finally settled on an seating arrangement for the living room – couches in a line with a long bench opposite one and ottomans opposite the other.

We chose this arrangement because it was the most spacious look. The matching couches in a line really helps to extend the living room to its full length rather than be limited to the small area in front of the tv. The tv itself is mounted and we did away with a console to maximize the space.

I have never regretted going with an open concept kitchen. Sidah doesn’t do much heavy cooking although she does like to stir fry some dishes. So far it’s been a breeze. Our big concern was really the seating for the island and we finally managed to find a cost effective solution.

We had a small gathering for our former and current colleagues, a group of about 15, and we managed to make do. That successful iftar (breaking fast together) gave us confidence to receive visitors for the coming weeks. Tomorrow we have another big group of relatives with children in tow. It would be interesting to see how that turns out.

Wish us luck!

    1. Hi,
I happen to stumble on your blog while searching for some reno idea and I must say Your house is so awesome and lovely !

I had also sign up with classic to do my kitchen, any comment on the workmanship and issue that I need to take note?

Is Song Cho stainless steel worth up to it name, was thinking of getting it too?

      1. Haha thanks Alvin. I definitely recommend Song Cho for their stainless steel. There are cheaper options out there but I haven’t found any cheaper options that are rust-proof. You might want to trawl to sites like Renotalk for recommendations but after trying myself, I just gave up because it was much easier to just go to Plaza Singapura and get what I need.

Classic kitchen is definitely recommended if you can afford it. It’s pricey but you get what you pay for. I had no issues with workmanship – they are very professional and reliable from my experience. Since then I have found another vendor (I do interior decor consults now) that is (slightly) cheaper. Since you already signed up with Classic for your kitchen, let me know if you need recommendations for wardrobes.

        Good luck on your reno!

      2. Thanks. I had also sign up with classic for my wardrobes. I am looking now to do a customized bedboard for my master bedroom. Do you had any shop to recommend?

      3. Classic themselves can customize a piece for you. The last time I shopped around, the difference is less than $200 so I just went with them as I wasn’t sure about the other vendors’ quality and did not want to take the risk.

  1. Good day! I could have sworn I’ve been to this website before but after reading through some of the post I realized it’s new to me.
Anyways, I’m definitely happy I found it and I’ll be bookmarking and checking back
    frequently!
